Former Essex Firefighter Remembered At January Funeral

The funeral for Jarrett Dixon a 36 year-old Baltimore County Firefighter, who at one point in his career served at the Essex Station No. 7, was celebrated on January 18, 2008 by Fr. Edward Miller at St. Bernadine Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore. Jarrett died on January 12 when he suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported to Northwest Hospital Center where he was ultimately pronounced dead. Earlier in the day Jarrett experienced chest pains while exercising in the Halethorpe Station No. 5 firehouse. Dixon at that point was taken and treated at St. Agnes Hospital where he was transferred to Union Memorial Hospital and released.

Dixon was a 1994 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park where he also served as a campus police officer. His degree was in Criminology and Criminal Justice. He joined the Liberty Road Volunteer Fire Company in 1993 where we served as a 1st Fire Lieutenant and a member of the Board of Directors. He graduated from the Baltimore County Fire Academy in 1997 where he also served an instructor. During his career Dixon served at several stations in Baltimore County. Dixon was divorced and survived by a five year old son.
